Shopping for "PantrySoft Hardware"
PantrySoft is a browser app, meaning that it works inside your browser like any other web page. As such, it should work with most mainstream browsers on relatively recent hardware. Below we'll provide a brief recommendation for hardware and software
Purchase Recommendations:
Desktops and Laptops: Any laptop or desktop running a modern operating system (see Operating System: Computers below) should work just fine; it takes very little processing power to run a web browser. The sheer number of qualified laptops and desktops is so vast, you should buy something that matches your budget.
- For quality budget PC laptops, refer to this article or one like it: https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/best-budget-laptops/
- For quality budget PC desktops, refer to this article or one like it: https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-budget-desktop-computers
- Apple laptops and desktops: Apple computers are expensive, and here you only need a machine that supports a reasonably modern operating system. So, we recommend most pantries shop for a used or refurbished model that meets the operating system requirements (again, see Operating System: Computers below)
Tablets: Ideally, purchase a modern Samsung Galaxy s(X), install Chrome on the Play store, and make sure you proceed with all updates to the Android system itself, and any updates to the browser itself. Then you're good to go!
Bar Code Scanners: Use scanner with Bluetooth capability if you want it to interact with a tablet. Otherwise, the cheaper models work just fine. Visit this page for full details.
Receipt Printers: Immediately following is a running list of printers our clients have reported they use to print PantrySoft tickets (NOTE: This list does not imply that Cedar Mountain Software has personally vetted the utility of these printers, especially in the sense of a compatibility with different operating systems, the publishing schedule of their driver updates, or any other hardware-to-operating system connectivity issues):
- Epson TM-T20iiiL (usb-connected printer)
- Epson TM-T30 (wireless version; connection via usb dongle)
Requirements:
Internet Connection
Ensure you can connect your device to an active internet service. If you're outside the range of any on-site routers, but you still want to use a tablet, try using the mobile hotspot feature on your personal phone to connect your tablet to the internet.
Hardware
PantrySoft works on any reasonably modern desktop, laptop, netbook, tablet, or other mobile device (see Operating System requirements below)
If you purchase an Amazon (Fire) tablet, you'll need to download Firefox, as Chrome is not advertised on their app store.
