This article shows you how to override the process by which PantrySoft automatically populates City, State, and County fields based upon an entered postal code.
Definition
In PantrySoft, a Postal Code Override is an optional feature that allows you to intercept how PantrySoft will autofill City, State, and County based on a particular code. This allows you to "correct" PantrySoft if it misrepresents the details of your area, as well as force the collection of only a specific set of postal codes.
Example: By default, PantrySoft might associate zip code 99999 with "SomeCity", "SomeCounty", and "SomeState". You can turn on the "Zip Code Override" feature and then re-associate 99999 with "OtherCity", "OtherCounty", and "OtherState" from a special screen.
Use Postal Code Overrides Only
Some pantries observe strict eligibility rules for new clients— eligibility rules tied to the client's residence. Only Use Postal Code Overrides mode allows admins to set up PantrySoft to only use the overrides you set up as zip code options throughout the app.
When selected, postal code fields become drop-down picklists instead of typable fields, with entries drawn exclusively from postal code overrides.
How to Set Up Only Use Postal Code Overrides
- Turn on Override Settings
From the menu, to go Setup > Client Settings > Scroll down to Address section. - Flip Only Use Postal Code Overrides to Yes. Be sure to select Save Settings.
- Access Custom Zip Code Screen
From the menu, go to Setup > Custom Postal Codes. - Create One or More Custom Postal Code
Follow the instructions in the Creating Postal Code Overrides section below to create one or more custom zip codes. - Verify Postal Code Pulldowns
Visit a dashboard popup that contains postal codes. For instance, edit an Address or click New Client. Verify that the postal code field is a pulldown menu with only the choices you've created, and not a free-form text field.
If the field is still a free-form text field, verify again that you've saved the Client Settings mentioned in steps 1 and 2.
