Zip Code Overrides

This article shows you how to override the process by which PantrySoft automatically populates City, State, and County fields based upon an entered zip code.

Definition

In PantrySoft, a Zip Code Override is an optional feature that allows you to intercept how PantrySoft will autofill City, State, and County based on a particular code. This allows you to "correct" PantrySoft if it tends to misrepresent the details of your area.

Example: By default, PantrySoft might associate zip code 99999 with "SomeCity", "SomeCounty", and "SomeState". You can turn on the "Zip Code Override" feature and then re-associate 99999 with "OtherCity", "OtherCounty", and "OtherState" from a special screen.

Creating Zip Code Overrides via Custom Zip Codes.

Some pantries might find that the address fields (City, State, County) auto-populated when a user inputs a zip code is inaccurate in some way. You can change the address preset for a given zip code in PantrySoft by creating Custom Zip Codes.

Perform the following actions to create a Zip Code Override:

  1. Turn on the Setting
From the menu, to go Setup> Client Settings. Shift Use Zip Overrides to Yes.

  2. Access Custom Zip Code Screen
From the menu, go to Setup> Custom Zip Codes. Select "Add New Code".

  3. Create a New Override
Enter information for the Zip Code, City, State, and County fields. The zip code you enter will be now associated throughout the app with the other three fields.

  4. Save and Exit

Use Zip Code Overrides Only

Some pantries observe strict eligibility rules for new clients— eligibility rules tied to the client's residence. Using the Zip Code Overrides Only mode allows admins to set up PantrySoft to only use the overrides you set up as zip code options throughout the app.

When selected, postal code fields become drop-down picklists instead of typable fields, with entries drawn exclusively from zip code overrides.

Use Zip Code Override Only

  1. Turn on Override Settings
From the menu, to go Setup> Client Settings. Shift Use Zip Overrides and Use Zip Overrides Only to Yes.

  2. Access Custom Zip Code Screen
From the menu, go to Setup> Custom Zip Codes.

  3. Create One or More Custom Zip Code
Follow the instructions in the Creating Zip Code Overrides section above to create one or more custom zip codes.

  4. Verify Zip Code Pulldowns
Visit a dashboard popup that contains zip codes; for instance, edit an Address or click New Client. Verify that the Zip Code/ Postal code field is a pulldown menu with only the choices you've created, and not a free-form text field.
(If the field is still a free-form text field, verify again that you've saved the Client Settings mentioned in step 1.)
